Sennheiser HD555 Review

By and large, the Sennheiser HD555 is the kind of headphone you would like to have even if you are not the music-freak type. Below are some of its amazing features;
• Sound Quality: one of the most remarkable features of this headphone is its high sound quality. This is certainly the key feature of Sennheiser HD555. This headphone makes use of a specific function that generates an extended spatial sound field by effecting an internal surround reflector. Apart from listening to music or watching HD movies, the Sennheiser HD555 can also be used for studio functions by music producers and professional sound engineers for sound production simply because of its high sound ability. With the high- and low-end of music clearly defined, all music genres appear to sound clear and balance. Every dialogue, music play and the slight sound make in a film are well balanced without experiencing any of the problems some headphones do have with vocal film soundtracks.
• Ear-pads for Great Comfort: the Sennheiser HD555 comes with velour ear-pads. These era-pads are very soft and are nicely fit onto your ears for a longer period of time without causing any discomfort whatsoever. However, it is built to fit in to all kinds of head – wide, small or tall, and different hairstyles as well. If you are the type of person that do wear glasses to watch films this ear-pads won’t push the frame into your head unlike other models.
• Aluminum Voicecoils: the voicecoils of Sennheiser HD555 are made of aluminum. This improves the internal efficiency of its audio transmission and keeps the headphones relatively light.
• Some other innovative features of HD555 include Sennheiser’s E.A.R. technology and optimized Duofol diaphrams for another level of audio enjoyment. This headphone combines overall listening pleasure with terrific wearing comfort.

You can easily change any of its parts under the two-year warranty that comes with it or even after the warranty expires with no extra charges.
• The major downside of HD555 headphone is that sound can be heard by nearby people. Some people prefer for more private device with no sound escape.

Bill: 2 years later and still sounding GREAT!, December 19, 2011
I purchased these headphones a couple years ago and seeing the price of these today, I’d say the $90 I paid was a steal. The sound is very clear and the bass is good as well. The best thing about these headphones, however, is the comfort! I’m not a big fan of headphones where the pad presses against your ear. These pads wrap around the entire ear which makes them perfect if you are planning on using them for longer durations (ex. watching a movie on your laptop). These were the first “good” headphones I purchased and I’m glad I went with the hd555′s. There’s no doubt you can find better headphones out there but a lot of us are not willing to spend hundreds of dollars on headphones.
These are the perfect compromise for price, but rest assured, there is no compromise in performance. One thing to consider though, if you are worried about other people hearing what your headphones are playing then you should think twice about getting these. They are open ear so sound leaks out. You can also hear the noise around you when you are wearing these, which those of you searching for noise-cancelling headphones might not like. I personally like this because I can hear what other people are saying when I have these on and no music/sound is playing.
Kevin: First over ear headphones, fantastic, October 19, 2011
Background:
I’ve owned several in-ear headphones ranging from Sennheiser CX-300-Bs to JLab J4 Rugged Metals (all replaced because one ear dies out). I have also tried on at least 40 different types of headphones (friends, classmates) both in-ear and over. I listen to music constantly (at least 3-4 hours a day) and I listen to almost every genre (except country).
Sound Quality:
I am by no means an audiophile and probably could not even tell the differences between the sound quality of the 555s and my previous in-ear headphones (in terms of treble, bass, etc). They just seem better. In more comparative terms the 555s are definitely much better than the average $100-200 headphones and may even be comparable to some high end $200-300 headphones.
